Participating in Music at Trinity Cathedral

The Celebration Choir and Band of Hope

All those with an interest in singing are heartily welcomed into the Celebration Choir which provides musical leadership for the 9:00 am Sunday Eucharist, and for other occasions as scheduled. Gospel, World Music, Folk, Contemporary, and other non-traditional music, is the mainstay of this lively and enthusiastic group. The Celebration Choir often combines with the Cathedral Choir for special occasions such as concerts and our annual Jazz Mass. Singers and instrumentalists are invited to join this choir who practices in the Cathedral on Thursday evenings at 7:00. An audition is not required to join the Celebration Choir.

The Cathedral Choir

The Cathedral Adult Choir is a mixed-voice choir of volunteers and four choral scholars, and is open to experienced singers of High School age and older. The choir emphasizes a high standard of singing within the classic Anglican tradition, and the choir's repertoire encompasses a large variety of music from Renaissance, Classical, Romantic and Contemporary periods. The Cathedral Choir rehearses in the Cathedral each Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm, and sings for the 11:15 am Sunday Eucharist, as well as Choral Evensong at 5:45 pm on the second Thursday of each month. The Cathedral Choir has made four tours of England, acting as "choir-in-residence" at several of the great English Cathedrals. Our fifth Tour in August of 2003 included performances at Peterborough and Canterbury Cathedrals and Westminster Abbey, and our sixth tour is tentatively planned for July-August 2008! A personal interview and simple audition is desired of new members, and may be scheduled by contacting the Canon for Music.

The Cathedral Handbell Ringers

Bells are among the most ancient of musical instruments, and have been used in Christian Worship since the earliest times. Our Cathedral Handbell Ringers practice in the Choir Room on Tuesday evenings at 7:30 pm, and play for services as scheduled. Some music reading ability is desired.

The Taizè Singers

This small, informal group provides musical leadership for our Thursday evening Eucharist, using the music from the community at Taizè in France. This group practices in the Music Annex on Thursday at 5:20 pm, and sings for the 5:45 Eucharist in the Cathedral. This group meets most every Thursday of the year, except when Choral Evensong is scheduled.

Resurrexit

This small group of singers specializes in the Renaissance and Tudor repertoire of Victoria, Byrd, Palestrina, Tallis, and others. Membership in this group is open to all regular adult choir members and is auditioned each year.
