The Cathedral Music Series 2017-2017

  • Thursday, October 5th at 6:00 pm– Our first service of Choral Evensong for the season, sung by the Cathedral Choir. Included will be the magnificent setting of the evening canticles by Herbert Howells, written for the choir of St John’s College, Cambridge, England.


  • Sunday, October 29th at 11:15 am– Reformation 500 Eucharist. 2017 is the five-hundredth anniversary of the start of the Reformation. We celebrate with a special Lutheran-styled communion service, which includes the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, perhaps the most famous of Lutheran musicians!


  • Thursday, November 2nd at 6:00 pm– Choral Evensong for All Souls Day, sung by the Cathedral Choir, including music by Healey Willan and Anthony Caesar.


  • Sunday, December 3rd at 9:00 & 11:15 am– The First Sunday of Advent: The Great ‘O’ Antiphons. Please join us for our traditional start to the Advent season, with this beautiful and powerful service sung by the choirs of Trinity Cathedral.


  • Friday, December 15th at 7:30 pm– The Annual Holiday Concert with The Vocal Art Ensemble. Known for their creative and interesting programming, this group is a Sacramento favorite!


  • Saturday, December 23rd at 7:30 pm– The Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, with the Cathedral Choir and Cathedral Choristers.


  • Saturday, January 27th at 4:00 pm– The Thirty-first Annual Diocesan Choir Festival welcomes singers from all around the Diocese, for a day of singing, culminating with a service of Choral Evensong. Canon David Link will the conductor for this year’s festival, and Dr. Ryan Enright will be the guest organist. Included will be “The Heaven’s Are Telling” by Franz Joseph Haydn, and the “Evening Canticles in D major” by Sir George Dyson.


  • Thursday, February 1st at 6:00 pm– Choral Evensong and Candlemas Procession. We celebrate the presentation of Jesus in the Temple, with a Candle-lit procession into the Cathedral, and a full service of Choral Evensong. Music by George Dyson and Leo Sowerby will be sung by the Cathedral Choir.
  • Thursday, March 1st at 6:00 pm– Choral Evensong for Lent. The Cathedral Choir sings music by Adrian Batten and Orlando Gibbons.


  • Sunday, April 15th at 5:00 pm– Our own Canon David Link plays an organ recital to benefit NorCal AIDS Canon Link has ridden in NCAC for the last seven years and has raised over $35,000 in the process! Please join us for a program of music by Bach, Franck, and many others. Suggested minimum donation $10.


  • Thursday, May 17th– Choral Evensong for Ascensiontide – Please join us as we present our final Evensong for the season, as we celebrate the Ascension of our Lord. The Cathedral Choir will sing the stunning setting of the Evening Canticles in e minor by Leo Sowerby.
