Classes for all ages
Preschool - High School

Sunday School begins at 10:15 a.m. and ends at 11:00 a.m. every Sunday. We provide Sunday School classes for children ages three up through 12th grade. Classes are divided by grade in school.

Three and four year olds plus Kindergartners are combined in our Godly Play class. Younger children are welcome in the Nursery. The use of Montessori’s approach to education has been adapted to Godly Play in order to stimulate children’s active participation in story and ritual and to awaken their creativity for the learning of the language ,sacred stories, parables, liturgical action and silence of the Christian tradition. The Cathedral periodically offers authorized training for Godly Play. The next training is on July 7, 2007 from 9:00 to Noon.

First grade through fifth grade are using the "The Episcopal Children's Curriculum".

Junior High (6, 7 and 8th grades) is using the Rite 13 curriculum from Journey to Adult-hood. The Senior High (9-12 grades) is using the Journey to Adulthood (J2A) curriculum. Each class includes prayer Bible lesson other activities and a snack. Children are al-ways welcome to join or visit the classes. During the summer grades are combined.

Rite 13 for grades 6, 7 and 8 (Junior High)

Rite 13 is a program of spiritual formation for young people providing a liturgical frame for their experience in modern culture. It celebrates individuality and creative potential and instructs in skills needed for successful adult participation in church and society.

Rite 13 assists young people as they take the first steps of passage away from their families and into their own lives. The group participates in discussions of pertinent topics, Biblical lessons, worship, food and fun. There are community service projects as well as fund raisers for mission trips.

The group meets Sunday from 10 to 11am and two Sunday evenings per month, 5:30 - 8:00pm. Director is Kathryn Bonney, 916-718-8903.

Journey to Adulthood -- J2A -- for grades 9, 10, 11 and 12

Journey to Adulthood, or J2A, follows the Rite 13 program for Senior High and is the heart of the program. It blends action and contemplation in teaching young people faithful living.

To prepare for adulthood, students learn basic skills: active listening, negation, assertion, research, partnership and leadership. J2A helps in understanding and affirming Christian living, meeting Sunday mornings 10-11am and two Sunday evenings per month.

Class members go on overnight trips, have fund raisers and participate in a mission trip in summer.

J2A director is Gayle Monroe, 916-419-8401.
